Orchestra Toronto Presents its First Concert Video with Classic Delights
Toronto, Ontario – December 16, 2020 – After having practiced and prepared and then having performances cancelled, Orchestra Toronto is excited to be able to bring its Sublime Delights concert, with special guest David Jalbert, to the Internet. Beginning December 17, 2020, for one month, Orchestra Toronto is posting a recorded performance, featuring pieces from Beethoven, Mozart, Sibelius and Brahms. Tickets are available now through the Orchestra Toronto website (www.orchestratoronto.ca) or Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/OrchestraToronto) with the recording being available from December 17, 2020 to January 17, 2021 at midnight.
Not being
able to share their music has been difficult for the musicians. Having
carefully consulted all the available public health guidelines and the most
current research and recommendations, as well as putting myriad precautions in
place, the musicians and guest artists assembled to record their very first
concert video. With the safety of all
involved being top priority for Orchestra Toronto, significant time was taken
to install proper barriers to protect the safety of the musicians, conductor
and readers.
“Being one of only a few Toronto organizations
that have been able to perform this year, it is exhilarating to be able to make
and share music again,” said Michael Newnham, Music Director of Orchestra
Toronto. “Music is one of the most important elements of life which brings us
all together, especially at this time of year. Because we are not able to
connect with our audience in person, we felt especially passionate about being
able to bring performed music back into people’s lives. We hope to bring as
much joy and peace to those that watch, as we were able to experience when
playing together.”
Orchestra
Toronto adapted its rehearsals and performance recording to ensure both were in
line with recommendations of local, provincial and federal public health
experts. The adjustments required that the orchestra:
• change
repertoire to have smaller groups playing at one time
• wear
masks at all times (when not restricted by the playing of an instrument)
• add
barriers to protect brass and wind musicians
• introducing
HEPA filters and added ventilation to the rehearsal space
• record
the performance due to restrictions on live audiences
